Starting tight end Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots tore his ACL and MCL in Sunday's NFL matchup in the 3rd quarter against the Cleveland Browns. It appears that it didn't matter if the Patriots had Gronkowski or not because they had a comeback win with a score of 27-26. Gronkowski was officialy placed on season-ending IR Monday afternoon. Tight End DJ Williams, who the Patriots released last week, signed another contract with the Patriots and will fill Gronkowski's roster slot. Browns safety, TJ Ward, hit Gronkowski directly in the knee, as Gronkowski fell to the ground in pain. Running back Shane Vereen, who had 12 catches for 132 yards Sunday, figures to be more of a focal point in the passing game with Gronkowski out. Ward said Sunday that he hit Gronkowski low because he didn't want to get fined. Gronkowski was taken off on a cart, as he was barely able to walk from the field to the cart. Gronkowski already missed the first six games this season due to forearm and back surgeries in the offseason.
In conclusion, Rob Gronkowski will be out for the rest of the season.
